Music
Introduction
Allenby follows the “Charanga Musical School Scheme” for curriculum and planning in Music. This scheme supports all the requirements of the National Curriculum and aligns with the curriculum for music and guidance from Ofsted.
The scheme moves away from the previous levels and learning objective/outcome concepts, adopting an integrated, practical, exploratory, and child-led approach to musical learning. Lessons are delivered weekly by the class teachers. The Charanga Musical School Scheme provides assessment tools, clear progression, and engaging whiteboard resources to support every lesson.
Children at Allenby have the opportunity to celebrate and explore the work of different composers from around the world and throughout history. A display in the lobby, "The Composer of the Month," reminds everyone which artist we are focusing on each month. The music of the featured composer is played in the corridor, the hall, as well as in classrooms during regulation periods and quiet work time.
Allenby liaises with Ealing Music Services to further develop and secure high-quality teaching across the school.
The pupils also have the opportunity to celebrate World Music Day every year and participate in workshops delivered by a musician from Ealing Music Services.
